One Week in South Korea

Embarking on a week-long adventure in South Korea! As avid travelers, we’re seizing the opportunity to explore Seoul, ensuring a smooth transition for our upcoming journey to Thailand. Our itinerary includes immersive experiences like a captivating walking tour, tantalizing street food excursions, and browsing through bustling markets. To make the most of our time and foster cultural exchange, we’re considering a Workaway opportunity during our stay. Follow along as we dive into the vibrant energy of Seoul and prepare for the next leg of our travels!
Two Months in Thailand
Chiang Mai
During our extended stay in Chiang Mai, we’re fully immersing ourselves in the local culture by spending 60 nights in a charming village. Embracing the lifestyle of the locals, we’ll be living, working on our business, and engaging in volunteer work. This two-month sojourn offers us a unique opportunity to deeply connect with the community, gaining insights into their way of life and traditions. By living like locals, we aim to not only enrich our own experiences but also foster meaningful connections and contribute positively to the village. We’re excited for this extended adventure, where every day brings new discoveries and opportunities for growth.
Workaway - Fun&Learn Chiang Mai
While in Chiang Mai we will be spending some time volunteering with Fun&Learn Chiang Mai through Workaway. Giving back to the communities we visit is a core value for us, and Workaway provides the perfect platform to do so.
One Month in Japan

Counting down the days until our Japan adventure in September! With three weeks to explore before our family joins us, we’re diving headfirst into discovery mode. Our mission? To scout out and familiarize ourselves with our surroundings, ensuring we’re fully prepared for the upcoming excitement of Soca in Japan and conquering Mount Fuji. From navigating the bustling streets to immersing ourselves in local customs, we’re embracing every moment as we gear up for unforgettable experiences ahead. Mount Fuji
During our time in Japan, we’re gearing up for an unforgettable adventure: hiking to the summit of Mount Fuji. Preparing for this epic journey involves rigorous training hikes, ensuring we’re physically and mentally ready for the challenge. Our plan includes spending a night on the mountain, soaking in the serene atmosphere, before embarking on the summit climb the following morning. Throughout the expedition, we’ll be sharing our experiences and documenting the journey on social media and YouTube pages.
Mount Fuji presents an exciting opportunity for Lavater to conquer one of the highest points in Japan, and we’re eager to witness the mountain’s beauty and majesty up close. As hiking season draws to a close shortly after our arrival, we’re embracing the chance to seize this adventure before time runs out. Join us as we embark on this thrilling quest to conquer Mount Fuji and soak in its breathtaking views.

We will be at the exhilarating Soca in Japan Festival, a dynamic celebration of music, culture, and unity. From September 20th to 23rd, 2024, immerse yourself in the infectious rhythms of Soca music at this vibrant event, where Japanese and Caribbean cultures collide in a mesmerizing fusion. Two Months in Turkey
Istanbul
Touching down in Turkey, our adventure begins with a visit to the iconic city of Istanbul. Being the only city in the world that straddles two continents, we’re exhilarated at the prospect of immersing ourselves in its vibrant tapestry of culture and heritage. From exploring the ancient wonders of the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque to strolling through the bustling area known as the Grand Bazaar, every moment promises to be a captivating journey through time. Izmir
In Izmir, our journey takes us on a path of discovery and preparation for our future endeavors. Spending time in this vibrant city allows us to immerse ourselves in its rich tapestry of culture and lifestyle, laying the groundwork for our official move in 2025. As Lavater explores opportunities to teach English at local schools, we’re equally invested in learning about the city’s dynamic landscape, from its charming shops and delectable restaurants to its bustling markets. This period of acclimation offers us the chance to forge connections, familiarize ourselves with our surroundings, and make informed decisions about our future in Izmir. Workaway -Izmir Olive Farm
While in Izmir, we’re eager to immerse ourselves in the local agriculture scene by participating in a Workaway program at an olive farm. This hands-on experience will allow us to gain valuable insights into olive cultivation and production processes while contributing our time and efforts to the farm’s operations. We’re excited about the opportunity to work alongside local farmers, learning from their expertise and exchanging cultural knowledge. By engaging in this Workaway experience, we hope to deepen our appreciation for the region’s rich agricultural heritage and make meaningful connections with the local community.
One Month in Ghana
African Naming Ceremony
In December, we’re embarking on a soul-stirring journey to Ghana, where we’ll be delving into our African heritage in profound ways. Our itinerary is brimming with meaningful experiences, including participation in an African naming ceremony to honor our ancestry as revealed by 23andMe. Additionally, we’re eagerly diving into research on obtaining citizenship, acquiring land, and securing passports, paving the way for a deeper connection to our roots. Overflowing with excitement, we’re ready to immerse ourselves in the rich tapestry of Ghanaian culture and uncover the profound layers of our African heritage. WOrkaway - Yoga Retreat
In December 2024, we’re embarking on a fulfilling journey to Ghana to participate in a yoga retreat Workaway experience. With my wife currently pursuing her yoga instructor certification, this opportunity aligns perfectly with her passion for yoga and personal growth. By immersing ourselves in this retreat, we’re not only feeding into our hobbies and interests but also contributing to the local community through our participation. We’re excited to learn from experienced yoga instructors, gaining invaluable knowledge and insights while deepening our practice. This dual-purpose endeavor allows us to give back while also enriching ourselves both personally and professionally.
